Alan ChouSenior Video Games Executive
Alan Chou is an experienced executive in the video gaming space with ten years in the business and over a dozen AAA game titles launched and credited. Born in the Bay Area, Alan attended the University of California, Berkeley before working as an engineer, getting an MBA and then fourteen years with Intel and Microsoft. It was with Intel that Alan moved to Singapore thirteen years ago, met his wife and started a family. Even though he has been in Singapore for more than a decade you can still tell his place of birth from his strong California accent (dude!).
Most recently Alan has been Blizzard’s Director of Publishing for Southeast Asia where he led the team to a 5x growth in revenue over the last four years. Milestones during this time include launching Blizzard’s first ever game localized into a Southeast Asian language (Hearthstone for Thailand launched in March 2016) as well as pioneering the introduction of a new business model for cybercafes in the region.
Esports is a key part of Blizzard’s publishing operations and Alan’s SEA team led the way with major Hearthstone tournaments in Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore. This format was later adopted by HQ for the rest of the world to follow. The team also pioneered a new esports format for Overwatch with a pre-recorded tournament that provided content in a six week episodic format.
Prior to Blizzard, Alan was Xbox product manager for Singapore and led the launch of games Halo 3, Gears of War, and Ninja Gaiden II in addition to managing the sales, distribution and marketing of Microsoft’s console business.
With a strong background in building businesses, leading teams and roles in the functional areas of Finance, Marketing, Business Development/Contract Negotiations, Alan enjoys the challenge of pushing boundaries and in his own words “creating something from nothing”.
